Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) are highly manoeuvrable, unmanned submersibles used for numerous underwater tasks from diver observation through to building entire installations.
ROVs are widely used in the off-shore oil and gas industries, and are now making their way into the in-shore industry. They are ideal for all sorts of tasks such as quay wall and jetties, dock gate, ships hulls, bridge support and a variety of other surveys; search and recovery operations, outfall inspections and drug enforcement.
The ROV is operated by a person on-board a vessel or quayside and is linked by an umbilical cable known as a tether, that carries power, video and data signals back to the pilot in order to see and navigate the vehicle. This allows the pilot to remain in a more comfortable and safe environment, while the ROV works in the often hazardous water environment below.
Additional equipment can be added to expand the capabilities and range of tasks the ROV can carry out. Sonar, Magnetometers, Cutting Arms, Additional Strength Members to allow recovery of heavy devices, Manipulators, Bottom Scrubbers, Pressure Washers, Measuring Aids, Metal Thickness Gauges, Water Samplers and Instruments are some of the examples of the use of this very versatile piece of equipment.
We regularly run awareness events, showcasing the many uses of an ROV with real-time demonstrations and bacon sandwiches. Register your interest here.
